A media business

The head of the research function of an internationally renowned media business recognised a need for more effective team working with her function and invited us to shape a journey that would deliver such a change.

The function were clear about both their context and their purpose, they just needed to perform more effectively together and apart in order to deliver.

We began our work with the senior team, as they would be role-models for this transformation. We first explored  with them the everyday situations they were likely to find themselves in where they could either contribute  to or undermine a collaborative way of working. We then used the Lumina Spark tool to first define with them how a skilful contributor thought and behaved in those situations and second to promote self-awareness and intentions to change.

We then worked on an on-going basis with the senior team. This involved observation and facilitation of the team at work both with each other and with their own teams.

“Two years ago there was little traction in the idea that service managers could become the engine room for change. Now we have 80 or so managers thinking in this way. This gives us a far better chance of coping with future challenges than just having a dozen directors at the top of the council structure doing so.”
